Come Quickly, Lord Jesus – A Prayer

We ask you, come quickly, Lord Jesus.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus, to speak to our hearts and fill us to overflowing with love for those we do not understand. May your Word fill our mouths like honey.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus, to open our ears to hear the stories of the broken. Give us the courage to show the same grace you have shown to us.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus, to our brothers and sisters around the world who boldly proclaim faith in you unto death. Strengthen the courage of those left behind. Make strong the church which marches on in the face of persecution. Make fertile the ground upon which the blood of the martyrs falls.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus, to the hungry and the poor. We thank you that in your Kingdom, they are greatest. Give us eyes to see and provision to help.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus, to heal the divides brought by color and class in our own nation. May we listen before we speak. May we embrace the hurting without question.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus, to the proud and the selfish. Remind us of the great grace our sins have required. Break us one more time, and one more time again.

And we ask, humbly, for grace to work and pray without ceasing before your return. We ask for one more week – one more day – one more hour – before your return, that we may tell one more – ten more – a hundred more – of your great love for them. Even as we long with every breath to see you, we beg for more time to bring those without hope to you.

We wait in hope for you. You are our help and our shield.

Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.
